Using Your Mouse with Revit
If its an IntelliMouse:
In the Control Panel , add the
Revit.EXE to the exclusions list.
This should make the mouse wheel
work properly.
Make sure the middle button is set
to "Middle Button"and not Universal Scroll or whatever the MS equivalent of that
is.
To rotate realtime in Revit instead
of pressing F8 or the eye icon, try pressing the wheel button + the shift key.
If you have something like a
Microsoft 5 button mouse then make use of the 2 side buttons to enhance
productivity.
For example, I have 'Properties'
assigned to my left button and 'Project Browser'assigned to the the right.
'Properties'would have to my most
used command and the 'Project Browser'can be hide/shown on demand to gain more
valuable screen real-estate. To do this: Set up your Keyboardshortcuts.txt file
to assign a keyboard shortcut to a command.
I believe you will have to assign a
single key, e.g. F2. In your mouse software assign your key to the button of
choice.
Transcripting
Revit 6.0 includes control over
transcripting. Transcripts can be used to help recover
a damaged or corrupted file.
To set the number of transcripts to be saved, go to
Settings->Options. Select the General tab. At the
bottom of the tab, you can select how many transcript
versions to be saved and how many days worth to save.
The transcripts gives you the ability to clean up
previously created journals, which are located
in "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Revit 6.0\Journals".
They can be opened with a WordPad, NotePad, or any
other text-based program.
Customizing Revit's Dictionary
Revit 6 makes it very easy for you to customize your
dictionary to check for spelling errors.
Go to Settings->Options. Select the Spelling tab.
Select the first Edit button next to the Custom
Dictionary field.
A Notepad file will open. Simply type the words you
want to add to the dictionary and save the file.
Press F7 to check the Spelling on the active sheet.
Exporting Families
Revit 6.0 includes the ability to save a family in a
project file, so you don't have to use the Copy & Paste
method or save as a group and save as an rvg.
Unfortunately, in order for it to work, the family has to
have been created in Release 6.0. If the family and
project file was created in Release 6.0, then you can
export the family so you can save it to be used in other
projects.
To do this, simply highlight the family in the browser.
Right click and select 'Save'.
Revit Easter Egg
The Easter Egg in Revit is hidden in the same place
whether you have Release 5 or Release 6.
To access it, hold down Control + Alt + Shift and then
select 'About Revit' from the Help menu.
You'll see the list of the entire Revit team.
True North
There is a nifty function in Revit, that lets you switch between "Project North" (building line up with top of the page) and "True North" (Building orientated in relation to the site north) All you have to do is right click in the view, and click View Properties, scroll down to the bottom and you can see the option to swtich between both, nice option to have when you design the house, and then switch to larger view and turn on the true North to see the building in site context without rotating all your buildings.
To select objects by family category :
Project Browser >> Families >> Walls (or whatever) >> Basic Wall >> Family Type >> Right Click >> Select all instances
Date Stamp Display Format
You can format the display of the date stamp in your titleblock using the Regional Settings command on your computer. It is independent of Revit.
Go to Settings->Control Panel->Regional Options. Then set the desired date format.
Quick Select Previous
To select the previous selection set, hit the left arrow key.
