CAD News... Large and Small
Dear Elise,
Microsoft Retires 98 and ME

Effective July 11, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me will transition to a non-supported status. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates. Existing support documents, however, will continue to be available from the Microsoft Support Product Solution Center website.
Inventor R11 Content Center Interface Changed

The way users can access Inventor's Content Center continues to evolve in R11...back in the beginning, there was RedSpark (hands, anyone remember RedSpark?). This was an html interface, basically a webpage that would launch when you wanted to insert hardware content (fasteners, washers, springs, etc.). You could drag and drop content from the webpage into your Inventor assembly using an idrop-enabled interface.

Then RedSpark disappeared and there was a release where users could basically hack a fix so that they could get to the cool content.

The Content Center returned to the Insert menu the following release much to everyone's relief.

Then, there was the release where the Content Center was practically an easter egg ( a hidden goodie)...you had to access it from the drop-down on the Assembly Panel bar.

This release you can access the Content Center right from the Assembly Panel toolbar, but the interface has changed slightly...just enough to confuse old- timers and annoy newcomers. No more idrop, just a dialog and right click short-cut menu interface.

To help you over the Content Center hurdle, download my free tutorial on how to use the new Place from Content Center tool.

Does Your Company Recycle?

At my new company...no recycling bins...almost an aberration in today's society...but there is an organization that will provide companies with a FREE...yes, that's right....FREE recycling bin.

How cool is that? Just go to the URL, sign up, and they ship you a very nice recycling bin for your lunchroom or office anywhere in the USA.

Back on the Injured List

August 15 was supposed to be an ordinary day for me. I had put in 10 hours at my job, picked my son up from his summer day camp, and headed over to the ranch to ride. My husband met us there. He and Isaiah took out on the trail riding Oberon and Laertes.

We had bought a four year old Paint gelding with the idea of training him and making him Isaiah's horse. The person who sold him exaggerated how much training he had and it was more and more clear that this horse was barely saddle-broke. I had spent the past two months just doing ground work with him getting him used to being directed on a lead. I was just starting to work with him in the arena under saddle.

I had just gotten mounted and had taken a few steps when the horse decided to buck me off. I landed on my back, breaking ten vertebrae and collapsing my left lung. I lay on the ground in the arena while the horse stood on the opposite end. I knew I had no spinal injury at that point because I could feel my legs and move them, but I also knew I was badly injured. I was having problems breathing and thought I might have punctured a lung and broken some ribs.

Because I couldn't breathe, I couldn't yell, so even though I could hear people walking by on the sidewalk above the arena, I couldn't call for help. I lay there for forty minutes, waiting for my husband to return from his trail ride, trying not to panic, not moving as I did not want to make any injuries any worse.

My husband finally arrived, an ambulance was called, and I was taken to the hospital. I spent a week in the ward. No surgery was required as all the breaks are clean. It took about four days for my lung to recover. Until then, I couldn't spend a lot of time speaking on the phone...my choice was to take a breath or talk and breathing was my first choice.

I am expected to make a full recovery and the four year old that injured me is up for sale. I plan to be back at work in the next week, but I am taking it easy for now. For those of you who emailed me in the last month with lisp requests, they are on the back burner until I get caught up with my regular work.
