OK, be honest, how much time do you waste looking
for documents? Have you ever spent an afternoon
writing a proposal, spec, or creating a drawing only
to find out that someone in the company had a
crucial piece of information that completely changes
everything you did? Have you ever told a
customer "I don't know, but I'll find out." and then
been unable to find the information for them, and
thus, lost a sale?
Well, you can continue to gnash your teeth, quietly suffer, or you can do something about it. The something would be to install an intranet search tool that would allow people in your department and throughout the company to search documents on the server (even email in public folders), so they can locate the information they need to do their jobs. If your company has one of those great programs where they reward employees for presenting great ideas, here's your opportunity to be a hero (and possibly garner a bonus). We recently installed Elmo Search at my company in San Jose. Yes, there were some glitches, but the folks at Irisco were incredibly available with support, even implementing changes we requested on the fly. You even get a nice little desktop tool that allows you to search company documents on the fly. Irisco is extremely flexible with pricing and will work with you to get you the package you need at a reasonable price. (a major savings over other search engines like Google!) |

Be among the first to see what's new for structural
engineers! Register today to attend this half-day
seminar for a FREE demonstration of the features and
functionality of Autodesk Revit Structure. It is the
structural engineering design and documentation
software that offers concurrent modeling for
analysis, coordination, and documentation-and
bidirectional linking to industry-leading analysis
applications.
It looks like Revit Structure is a separate product from Revit Building, so if you are doing both types of design, you may need to buy a seat of each. The good news is that Revit Structure is boasting perfect compatibility with ADT and Revit Building. I'll be updating my Revit texts and I will probably write a book for Revit Structure as a companion to the Revit Building text. But first, I have to update my ADT text. |

I had hoped to write a quick article on menu
customization for AutoCAD 2006 for this week's issue,
but between trying to catch up at work and dealing
with my horses....the week just got away from me.
Thursday I spent three hours while a new farrier put shoes on my husband's Arabian. He is a fidgety horse and this was her first time with him, so it was an ordeal. As I was putting the Arabian back in his stall, I peeked into my horse's stall....he was lying down and in obvious pain. This was his fourth bout with a low grade colic since October. The vet came out and gave him some pain medication and the horse version of Tums. When my horse has a belly ache, his preference is to lie down with his head in my lap. Since his head weighs at least twenty pounds, I was happy when the vet finally arrived to give him a shot. |
