Who Do You Trust?

In a previous issue, I wrote about the system variable DWGCHECK. This system variable checks if a drawing was created in AutoCAD and warns you if it wasn't. The default setting in 2006 was 0 - only warns you if there is some problem with the drawing.

In 2007, the default setting has been switched, so now you get a dialog box warning you that the drawing originates from a "non-trusted" source. However, perform a QSAVE and the drawing becomes trustable again.

Or, you can simply avoid the warning dialogs altogether and change the system variable.

Greetings!
  • Autodesk Subscribers to Get Vault Free
  • Lynn Allen announced at the March 7 CAD Camp I attended that Autodesk subscribers will be provided with Autodesk Vault for free at some point in the future. Vault is a document management software that allows you to check drawings, word documents, excel spreadsheets, etc. in and out, so you have some revision control.

If this proves to be true, becoming an Autodesk subscriber should be a lot more palatable for most users. Contact your local reseller for details.

  • Change the Basepoint\Scale\Rotation of a Block on the Fly
  • In AutoCAD 2004 or beyond, you can switch the insertion point\scale\rotation on the fly. Select Insert Block as you normally do. Press OK. The preview of the block will appear on your cursor. Right click.

On the right click menu, you will see you have the option to redefine your basepoint (so you can reset the insertion point of the block for this instance), the scale or rotation of the block.

  • Reloading the PGP File
  • It used to be that when you modified the pgp file (this is the file with all your shortcut keys), you had to exit AutoCAD and relaunch it. Now, you can modify the pgp file in Notepad or through the Tools menu and simply re-load it without having to close AutoCAD.

To reload the pgp file, simply type REINIT on the command line.

  • Repeating a Command In the CUI
  • If you want a macro to repeat automatically, simply type a * in front of the command.

  • Faster Zooms
  • ZOOMFACTOR controls the increments used by the display when you zoom in or out. The default is 60, but you can set it from 3 to 100. Set it to 100 and add ZOOM to your ZOOMs.
