A few issues back I warned readers that AutoCAD 2007 will use a new file format. This is only a real concern if you share dwg files with other users who may use other software to read the dwg file, software like IntelliCAD or SolidWorks.

In the real world where most AutoCAD users live and work, sharing DWG files is simply part of doing business. In the parallel universe where Autodesk lives, users only use Autodesk software, so the need to share files with "alien" programs is not a problem.

Users can always set their Save setting in Options to automatically save to 2000 format. That way they don't have to worry about the ability to share. However, Evan Yares, of the Open Design Alliance, reports in his blog that the new AutoCAD 2007 format has even more insidious intentions.

Evan does not believe that the Open Design Alliance will be able to support the new file format in 2007. This means IntelliCAD and SolidWorks users will be effectively "frozen out" of this release and future releases of AutoCAD.

It's Jerry Time
I have mentioned this link before, but in care you missed it...Jerry is some guy in New York who is running an animated blog. On the first of every month, he posts a short animation (about ten minutes) about some event in his life.

The animations are funny, original, and Seinfeldish in quality. So, if you are looking to lighten your day a little, take a break and watch this free animation.
