Seeking On-Line Solutions
My company has asked me to come up with a way that
users could red-line drawings or documents on-line on
the company's website and then email notification to
members of a group.
Sounds like Buzzsaw, right? That's what I would think,
but Buzzsaw requires users to go to a separate website
hosted by Autodesk and my company would prefer
to "keep things in the family", if they can.
So, if you know of a product that allows for on-line
redlining, email me and let me know about it.

Speed Up Your Start-Up
If you notice that AutoCAD is a little bit slow when you
launch, you can speed it up (by a considerable amount)
by making a small adjustment in your Internet browser
settings.
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options.
Then select the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the
Security section. Uncheck Check for publisher's
certificate revocation.

Editing RText in AutoCAD 2006
Some users who have installed AutoCAD 2006 report
that they are unable to modify RTEXT using the
Properties dialog; i.e. select the RTEXT, right click and
select Properties.
The lisp routine below (posted in the Autodesk
Discussion group by Victor) allows you to modify your
RTEXT. Copy and paste to Notepad. Save as rtr.lsp.
Then, simply load using APPLOAD and run by typing 'rtr'.
(defun c:rtr()
(setvar "cmdecho" 0)
(setq rtext_ents (ssget))
(setq rtext_ent (ssname rtext_ents 0))
(setq rtext_ent1 (entget rtext_ent))
(setq old_path (cdr (assoc 1 rtext_ent1)))
(princ "Old Path = ")
(princ old_path)
(print)
(setq new_path (getstring "Enter New Path using
slashes instead of backslashes: "))
(setq rtext_ent1 (subst (cons 1 new_path) (assoc 1
rtext_ent1) rtext_ent1 ))
(entmod rtext_ent1)
)

Is ICE in Your Cell Phone?
Mike Perry, AUGI Board member, emailed me about a
new campaign being launched in Britain.
East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a
national "In case of Emergency (ICE) " campaign with
the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston and in
association with Vodafone's annual life savers award.
The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your
mobile phone address book, and against it enter the
number of the person you would want to be
contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency
situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able
to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able
to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can
do it.
Sounds like a simple idea...and we all know the simple
ideas are usually the best. For more than one contact
name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc.
I hope this idea catches on in the US and other
countries. Cell phone usage is common globally and it
seems a lot easier than searching through someone's
wallet at an accident site, hoping to find a clue of who
to contact.

Play Ball
As some of you know, I play softball in a recreational
women's softball league. I am the oldest player on the
team. I am currently playing catcher. My team is
called Team O. We wear shirts with names that end in
O...similar to a bowling league. We have Cheery-O, Jell-
O, Mell-O, Psych-O, and Freak-O. My shirt reads Tang-
O....no reason, other than it was the right size.
We are the worst team in the league. Last season, we
won one game. A typical score might be 28-4. Our
games were routinely called on the pity rule. This
means the opposing team would take pity on us and
call the game because they were so far ahead.
On the other hand, we are a pretty social group.
Bonfire parties on the beach, BBQs, hot tub parties,
dinners, pub crawls, etc. are scheduled on a regular
basis...two or three a month. I can barely keep up.
As we ramp up for another season, we are seeking a
sponsor for the team. Sponsorship basically covers the
cost of our league fees. In exchange, your name as
sponsor gets posted on the league website (and in
various other places). Plus, you get the thrill of
knowing you have made twelve women (ages 21 to 50)
very happy. A sponsorship costs $950. And if you like,
we can lose the bowling team style shirts and switch to
ones with your company logo. Email me if your
company would like to play Fairy Godmother for Team O.
