Dear Elise,
Autodesk Unveils a New Logo

Along with the latest parade of software releases, Autodesk has unveiled a new logo. Gone is the lower case a- which was supposed to remind you of Autodesk's web-enabled capabilities. We are back to a capital A.

Resellers are no doubt scurrying to trash all T-shirts, jackets, polo shirts, and literature with the old logo so as not to offend corporate. Users with old logo merchandise now have a collectable they can sell on ebay.

Autodesk spends a great deal of money (think six digits) on these logo changes...which seem to occur every couple of years. At least they kept the same shade of blue. I can look through my closet and there are at least five different Autodesk logos in there. How many different Autodesk logos are in your closet/office? Let's make a game of it. The person who emails me with the most different Autodesk logos in their possesion can have my prized AutoCAD R14-TINI Martini glass. I'll take the submitter at their word. Autodesk employees and resellers may not participate.

3D Connexion Launches the SpacePilot

3D Connexion has launched it's latest advance in motion controllers - The Space Pilot. If you model in 3D, you want one of these devices.

The SpacePilot offers a new level of control and mastery in today's professional 3D applications. The redesigned controller cap, refined spring suspension and fine-tuned software deliver superior, finger-tip handling and precision control. Greg Scott, a Senior Engineer using Unigraphics at Moog Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of precision flight control components and systems stated, "The words 'precise' and 'responsive' come to mind after using the SpacePilot. I can initiate pan, zoom, and rotate in a single fluid motion, which is impossible to do with just a mouse. I also use various applications like CATIA, ProE/Mechanica and Microsoft Office simultaneously in a computer session. I find the SpacePilot's ability to adapt instantly and adjust map keys appropriately to the active application a welcome advancement."

I haven't had a chance to try one out, but as soon as I do, I'll let you know how I like it. I have spoken with other users who have these devices and we all agree...they are positively addictive. Your modeling work becomes so much easier and more seamless, they make it a joy to work in 3D.

ImageFrame Expands Its Options in 2006

OK, we all have done it...place an image in a drawing, turned the imageframe on so we can move it, scale it, etc. and then forgotten to turn the frame off before we plot. How annoying is that?

2006 introduces a new Imageframe option...

  • 0 - invisible and no plot
  • 1 - visible and plot
  • 2 - visible and no plot

Windows 2000 Bites the Dust
