Stairs in Revit 7.0 |
|
|
|
|
Creating stairs in Revit can be frustrating...as I was
reminded this past week when I was teaching a Revit
class.
Follow these tips and you can't go wrong...
- Boundaries are OPEN not closed polygons...the
upper and lower (right/left) sides are closed by Risers
NOT boundary lines.
- Set your SNAPs to the tread distance and placing
your riser lines will be a SNAP.
- Keep your lines straight or your railings may be
crooked.
- Use ALIGN to maintain your stair boundaries and
stairwall wall relation ships.
- Use OFFSET to create the outside/inside
boundary to maintain a constant tread width.

Applying Materials in 3D Viz |
|
|
|
|
Dave Hultenius, a professor in NY, emailed to tell me
about what he found in applying materials to the AEC
objects in Viz 2005.
You need to modify the door or window using
the "Mesh Select" modifier. Then, select the "Face"
parameter and then select the material to attach to
that face.

Plotting in Cadopia IntelliCAD 5 |
|
|
|
|
First time, we tried to plot in IntelliCAD, we hit a
blank image on the print preview. This caused
momentary panic, but in a few minutes I was able to
figure out the settings needed to create a great plot
everytime.
- Turn LIMITS ON and set the LIMITS around the
titleblock.
- On the Scale View tab, enable Limits & Fit print
area to size of page.
- On the Advanced tab, enable the center plot.

The INSPECT Command Revisited |
|
|
|
|
Thanks to Bob Davies, in Adelaide, Australia, who
reports that the INSPECT command is available in
LDD, Map, and Civil...in addition to ADT.
For those who have forgotten or missed the previous
issue of CADzette...INSPECT is an undocumented
command. Type INSPECT on the command line.
Then when you mouse over objects in your drawing,
a small popup will appear providing information on the
object. This would definitely be useful in civil
applications. Jeremiah McKnelly first brought it to my
attention and he has the gratitude of more than a
few users for the contribution, I am sure.
