New Forums Available
Randall Rath has set up a forum for me on CADVault
where readers can post questions to me about, oh,
whatever...most users email me directly. Problem
with that is, you may have the same problem as the
guy who emails me directly, and you never get to
read my response...unless I think it rates mention in
CADzette, which only occurs rarely.
So, if you have a tech support issue, a question
about one of my texts, whatever, this forum can
serve as a dialog and let other share in your problems
and concerns.
To post in the forum...

Bug in ADT2005 Schedules

I found this bug back in ADT 3.3, but it's still there in
2005.
I create a custom schedule for openings in ADT
2005. One of my columns is set to the shape or
ProfileName used for the opening. There are several
standard profiles you can use for your openings. The
problem is that your cell will be blank in the schedule
unless you use a custom profile.

Gripe About Autodesk

A common theme whenever I speak at user groups
(or even just sit in the audience), one or more
persons will approach me and start griping about
Autodesk.
Gripes range from the difficulty in learning the new
features, the high cost of subscription, the lack of
portability between CAD packages (even if they are
both Autodesk packages), and on and on.
Some of the gripes are valid and some aren't. I'm not
an Autodesk employee, so maybe users think I am
a "safe" ear to unload on - especially since I have
access to most of the execs at Autodesk. I think the
biggest problem is that users don't feel they have a
place to air their complaints. If they post on
the Autodesk discussion forums or the AUGI forums,
chances are the post will be removed.
Randall Rath, of CADVault, has set up a forum where
users can air their Autodesk gripes. I hope that the
gripes will be constructive...not just bashing. We've
all been frustrated trying to learn this complex
software, especially when trying to work against a
deadline.

These options are checked by default.

AutoCAD 2005 products may freeze at launch

On networks that are not connected to the Internet,
AutoCAD 2005-based products
may freeze at launch. The screen appears, but no
tool palettes display. The
workaround is to set the operating system so it
doesn't check for the revocation
of a publisher's certificate. Be sure to change this
setting only on systems
that are isolated from the Internet. Select Start /
Settings / Control Panel.
Select Internet Options (in Windows XP, first select
Network, then Internet
Connections), then select the Advanced tab. Under
the Security section, uncheck
Check for Publisher's Certificate Revocation. Select
Apply, then OK. The change
takes effect on reboot.

you try to select text.

Autodesk University Registration Opens in August

Doesn't it seem like we just got back from AU?
Autodesk starts planning for the next AU almost
immediately after their team packs their boxes and
ships them back to San Rafael.
If you have never been to an AU, you really don't
want to miss out. Start planning now...this means
asking your boss for the time to go and start planning
the best use of your time while you are there.
AU will be returning to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas,
NV on Nov 30 through Dec 3.
