Happy New Year! Whether you celebrate at a party with friends and family or stay at home and watch the ball drop on TV, take a moment to count your blessings.

I count each and every one of my subscribers as a blessing in my life.

Image Mapping in AutoCAD 2005

Image mapping is used to project a 2D image onto the face of a 3D object. It can be used for billboards, signs, television sets, monitors, etc. Any image file can be used.

Use image mapping to create more realistic renderings. I have written a tutorial to walk you through how to map an image onto a 3D object to create a more realistic scene.

Cell Phone Telemarketing Part II

Sean Dotson emailed regarding the previous article on cell phone telemarketing. He felt I had not made it clear that cell phone numbers were not being released to telemarketers. I thought I had, but to clarify the previous article:

  • Jan 1, Qsent will begin compiling a 411 directory of cell phone numbers.
  • In order to be listed in this directory, the cell phone user has to agree to be listed.
  • The 411 directory is supposed to be available to cell phone subscribers, it is not intended for telemarketing use.
  • The cell phone companies are not participating in the release of any cell phone numbers of their subscribers.
  • You can add your cell phone or home phone to the Do Not Call Registry for free.
  • If you are called by a telemarketer, you can request to be placed on their "Do Not Call" list and they must comply.

Protomold Asks Which 3D CAD Software?

Protomold asked their customers which 3D CAD software they used to create their injected plastic mold designs. In 2003 & 2004, SolidWorks led the pack with almost 40% of the users stating SolidWorks was their software of choice.

Autodesk Inventor showed slight gains from 2003 to 2004, but lags far behind with less than 10% of the plastics designers using Inventor.

So, why does Autodesk continue to maintain that Inventor leads Solidworks in sales? Keep in mind that both software packages are used for alot more than simply plastics design....but Autodesk still is going to have to work harder to convince plastic designers to switch over to their software.
