Feedback about Adobe and Autodesk Products

From Ken Dispoto, fearless CADzette reader,-

I recall trying to get rid of the annoying Adobe 6 Prof menus and buttons on my Win2000/Autocad-2002 without much success. I believe I found help on one of the newsgroups which suggested that you can get rid of the buttons & menus by uninstalling Adobe 6 from just AutoCAD. Then when you need a pdf of a drawing you can simply "print" the drawing as an adobe document using the pdf driver.

To uninstall or unload menus and toolbars, type MENULOAD on the command line. However, read below on how to load/unload Adobe toolbars and menus.

Jim Dee, from caddee.com, adds this regarding Acrobat and AutoCAD -

After loading Acrobat Writer I realized that it included the toolbar in AutoCAD, and each time I would close the toolbar it would pop back up the next time I opened AutoCAD. Not only would it pop up every time I re-opened AutoCAD, but it would force itself to be the first toolbar in the upper-right corner. I actually use PDF995 to produce PDF files from AutoCAD drawings and don't really care to have the toolbar present, so I did a search for the "PDFMaker.arx" file and renamed it "_PDFMaker.arx" so that it won't load the menu/toolbar. Problem solved!

I didn't have my Adobe toolbars loaded so I did a search for PDF*.arx on my system and located the file under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat\PDFMaker\AutoCAD\2004. To load the toolbar and the menu for Adobe:

  1. Type APPLOAD on the command line.
  2. Browse for the file and locate it.
  3. Highlight and select Open.

To unload the Adobe toolbar & menu:

  1. Type APPLOAD on the command line.
  2. Locate the PDFMaker file under the Loaded Applications list in the lower left corner of the dialog.
  3. Highlight it and select Unload.

CADDEE Adds some New Wonderful Utilties

Jim Dee also wanted to share the following information:

I also just released a new AutoCAD tool this week called BlockAid. BlockAid is a handy tool that helps organize library blocks and details. Building a library is as easy as creating a folder structure and dropping blocks into the appropriate folder. BlockAid also saves settings for each drawing file in INI formatted DWI files that can contain a custom command to be executed when the library content is inserted, layer and layer color to be inserted on, explode on insert mode, scale, xref, and descriptions that can be searched using the search tool. BlockAid can also be customized by building a toolbar or menu to launch it right to specific folders within your library. It's as easy as creating a button with (blockaid "x:/mylibrary/stuff") or (blockaid "x:\\mylibrary\\stuff") as the command string.

One more thing. I've updated Quick Cloud to include a Calligraphic option. Please check out BlockAid and Quick Cloud when you get a chance at www.caddee.com.

What's New In Revit 7.0?

There are some cool new tools in Revit 7.0...unfortunately, quite a few of them are well hidden or maybe they are just shy.

The new Resize tool allows you to scale walls and lines, but little else. I hope that future releases allow you to scale more object types.

You have a new Revisions tab under Options that allows you to link your cloud revisions on your sheets to real data- providing you with increased documentation change control.

Revit 7.0 has the same easter egg interface as the previous revision. To access it, hold down Control + Alt + Shift and then select 'About Revit' from the Help menu.
