In-Depth, Step-by-Step Training for AutoCAD Just $50 Per Year

OpenCAD has just announced a 50% reduction in the price of its training site subscriptions.

OpenCAD's Complete-Support Training Site (www.complete-support.com) features hundreds of step-by-step tutorials covering AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, 3DS MAX and Autodesk VIZ. Thousands of working architects, engineers, facilities managers, animators and designers subscribe to the training site every year in order to get the in-depth training and technical support they need. Instructors around the world use Complete-Support tutorials in the classroom to deliver lectures and support independent study work by their academic and professional students.

Designers who subscribe to the training site before November 30 will pay just $50.00 for a full year of access to the more than nine hunded tutorials currently on the site, and the new tutorials posted every month. After November 30, a subscription will cost $75.00 per year.

With money tight and unemployment high, this might be the least expensive and easiest way to brush up your job skills. Employers could buy a subscription and let their employees train on their lunch hour - or better yet, on company time.

MTEXT Worries in AutoCAD 2005
Problems with MTEXT in AutoCAD 2005 include:

The spell checker doesn't work if you are running XP. It works fine if you are in Windows 2000.

If you don't like the way the MTEXT dialog moves around on you, use MTEXTFIXED. Autodesk touted the way the dialog places where you click as an improvement, but a lot of users prefer the old way.

If you are having problems seeing your text, you may have your transparency set too high. Set paletteopaque=1 on your command line.

Creating a Custom Toolbar in Viz 2005

My text on Viz 2005 should be out in December. You can purchase all my textbooks through the publisher at www.sdcacad.com.

One thing I did not include in the textbook - because I thought it might be too distracting for beginning Viz students - was how to create custom toolbars.

Because Viz 2005 is so pared down, the ability to create and use custom toolbars becomes even more important. It is especially key if you want to be able to easily go from one isometric view (SW,SE,NW,NE) to another. This is because those options aren't available in the standard menu or on the standard toolbars.

It takes less than five minutes and you can create your own custom toolbar. Be sure to save it so you will be able to re-load it if you ever have to re-install Viz.

Multi-Plotting in AutoCAD LT

From my good friend, Beth Powell, in Roanoke, VA -

"The plotting of multiple layouts is not possible in AutoCAD LT2005. This is a HUGE issue. I haven't even touched on the pages of complaints on the Adesk site about this and already see people that are returning their copies to their resellers and requesting 2004."

There is a solution on the caddepot site. A freeware program called MultiPlot. I tried to download it, but I got a Page Not Found Error.

However, if this is a problem for you, it's worth a shot...just go to the caddepot site, enter AutoCAD LT as your search filter and see what you get.
