Greetings!
Checking Files In & Out in Inventor
If you have set up your project as a multi-user project,
you can check files in and out.
This allows you to control which versions are in use.
If you don't want to check in and check out files, set
the Multi User to Off. This is done in the Projects
dialog.
If you select the Down arrow next to Model, you see
that you have a choice of File Status. You only see
the File Status option on projects where the Multi-User
is set to Shared. Select File Status.

The New Quick Help in 2005 |
 |
Back in AutoCAD2000, Autodesk brought in a quick help
function, similar to the smarmy paperclip in Windows
Excel. This pop-up dialog will come up everytime the
user would initiate a command.
Now in 2005, you have Quick Help that operates under
the same principle. By default it is turned off, but you
can turn it on, by typing ASSIST on the command line.
The good news is it is not nearly as annoying as the
previous version. It now is a tool palette that you can
collapse and then only activate when you are running
into trouble.
For novice users to AutoCAD 2005, it will surely be
helpful. Old-time users will never need to know it exists.

SVAPU Meeting Postponed |
 |
|
The SVAPU meeting that was supposed to be held this
week has been moved to a new date -April 22.
Before I took over as president, during Dean's last year
as president, meetings were often postponed, moved,
or cancelled. This was usually because there were
problems with finding a meeting space, funding, or
getting speakers. I have no doubt that Dean, who is
back as SVAPU president, will shake things out and get
things back on track.
Of course, knowing Dean, this might be a tactic to build
traffic to SVAPU's website. If they keep changing the
meeting day, you have to keep up with it on the
website.
The best I can advise is to check the website before
you make a trip out to a SVAPU meeting so you don't
waste your time. I apologize to anyone who showed up
at the meeting this week only to find out it was a no-
go.

Right click and select Apply Tool Properties to Linework
and AEC Objects
-
Select all the spaces.

Where's the Content? |
 |
|
In previous releases of ADT, you could link to a page on
Autodesk's website to access free AEC content for use
in ADT. Initially, it was on Point A, but that website
was shut down last year. Then, it was moved to
Autodesk's website.
You used to be able to access the content through a
toolbutton or through the menu. Now, I couldn't even
locate the content doing a search on Autodesk's
website. Thanks to Paul Aubin, who pointed me to the
correct link.
This content is everything from door styles to window
assemblies. There used to be a lot more content...I
recall furniture as well as furnaces and casework. This
content represented a great body of work and a
wonderful resource for ADT users.
Why Autodesk decided to cut down on the content and
make it difficult for users to find is anyone's guess. Is
this a devious way to push ADT users to Revit?

BACKGROUNDPLOT - NEW 2005 SYSTEM VARIABLE |
 |
|
OK, I am sure this system variable is useful to some
people.
Let's say you have set up a scene with a background.
Maybe you don't want the background to plot because
you are just testing your rendering and don't need the
background. You would not want the background to
plot because it would take too long to plot or it would
waste ink, or whatever.
Now you have a system variable that controls whether
background plotting is turned on or off for plotting and
publishing. By default, background plotting is turned off
for plotting and on for publishing.
Value PLOT PUBLISH
0 Foreground Foreground
1 Background Foreground
2 Foreground Background
3 Background Background
